PLANKTON

Phytoplankton, also known as micro-algae, are tiny single-celled organisms that live within bodies of water and produce anywhere from 50-80% of the Earth’s oxygen. Their name comes from the Greek word “planktos” (“wandering”), because they simply drift through the water. Too small to be seen with the naked eye, they are neither plants nor animals, although they are essential to supporting all marine life.

Despite their small size, they contain a highly nutritious concentration of minerals, vitamins, enzymes, proteins, essential fatty acids, amino acids, and marine micronutrients. As an organism that floats on the surface of the sea, plankton relies on producing phytochemicals to protect it against the damage caused by harsh ultraviolet light. These compounds have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that have a similarly protective effect on the skin.

Plankton Extract can protect, repair, and replenish the complexion. It has been shown to help prevent — and possibly reverse — the breakdown of the skin caused by photoaging. Over time, sun damage can cause skin to develop uneven pigmentation, form fine lines, and lose elasticity and fullness. With Plankton Extract, skin’s natural defenses are fortified, refining the tone and texture for a brighter, more youthful appearance.
